help write a story

rathor

First Post
i just started a good game in the realms. i was going to develop the entire story line by myself but i thought it would be interesting to start a thread where you guys get to attribute a lot to my game. my players don't read the enworld forums, only look at storyhour every now and then. so i don't have to worry about them reading this post.

So guys, help write a story. here is the background after one session.

Setting... forgotten realms... unther... cira 1371...

unthers sister nation, mulhorand, has invaded and has just taken the capital city of Unthalass. The remains of the Untheric militia protecting the city have fled into the countryside. Mulhorand has been training ex-untheric slaves to send them after the remains of the untheric militia.

Samsur is a small peice of land laying between the smoking mountians and methwood. it is set in a valley that has a creek running through it. There is a small keep, two stories high, towers on each corner, and made of clay bricks. there is a small community near the keep. the inhabinates of samsur survive by hunting and farming. Unther is unaware Samsur exist. Once a year the leader of the community makes a trip to the nearest town, Uziz (two days journey) to sell surplus food and cut wood. He buys whatever the community needs and returns to his keep to live a boring and secluded life. The land of Samsur is surrounded by a large palisade to protect the crops and livestock. All the inhabinates, men and women (about 100 in all) are trained warriors (lvl 1-2) and are experienced with fighting off small goblin raids and other beast that threaten the community.

Cerventas Gildaren is the son of the leader of the community. He is a fighter lvl 1. His fathers name is Berkholt.

Piper is a halfling bard. He is a orphan raised by an old elf that has recently passed away. He plays the longhorn.

Ruv is a gnome druid. She doesn't know her parents and lives in a cave that is hidden by the roots of a large tree. She is considered part of the community though she lives outside the palisade. (i need help trying to connect her to the other players)

The three have been sent by Berkholt to uziz with a wagon full of food and wood and a list of supplies. Berkholt is old and sick, he is passing the responsiblity of the community to his son.

The three encounter goblins on the way and kill them easily. they had notthing of value except 4 cheap spears. the party takes them.

Outside Uziz the party encounters a teifling captian and four fighters. The teifling tries to conscript them into his army but the druid ensnares him and his fighters bicker about what to do. they do not appear very loyal to their leader and one appears to really dislike the teifling.

When the adventures leave the group and approach town they notice that a small army is encamped inside the town and that the villagers are loading wagons and horses with their things and are leaving town and moving north. A cry that the enemy is charging echos through town and the army takes position along a trenched sheild wall. When the adventures look east, they see a large ragged army charging the town...

the fighter decides to join the battle, the bard sings and the druid stays at the wagon.

the encamped army slaughters the charging army even though they were outmatched 3 to 1. (their arrows took about a third of the army down before it got to them and i made the mistake of rolling the slaves as lvl one warriors and the untheric militia as lvl 4-5 fighters and clerics... didn't expect the slaughter to be so bad)

The fighter climbs to the roof of a house where the commander of the untheric militia is barking orders and decides to tell the commander about his encounter with the teifling captian(what a dumbass)

the session ends with a large group of Mulhorand calvary comming into view opposite the sheild wall. The calvary is holding its position.

i was planning on rolling a storm in and giving the untheric militia cover to flee. more mulhorand regular troops will come into view and scouts will report that the enemy is trying to encircle the village.

the untheric militia will ride and run outta town west... the teifling will show up and a disagreement between him and the commander will send a large group of the militia off with him in the opposite direction of the commander. the fighter will be a prisoner of the commander. (the teifling was a captian of the untheric militia and the fighter told him that he was from the west so the commander will ask him about the terrian.)

don't know what to do from there. i was going to have the teifling find samsur and force most of it to join him and kill those who don't.

give me ideas...
damn... 2:30 and i do have class tomarrow at 9.. enworld does it to me agian.

Never Lead Nothin' Home

Perhaps the party could gather as the old lord decides to gather the famliless members of the town together as means to strengthen his sons self confidence and position without making him beholden to anyone in the town or vice versa. You said the lord is reclusive, and perhaps the reason for that as a motivation for bringing the most unusual members of the town together.

I like the idea of nasty members of the militia coming back to haunt Samsur. The Tiefling might use the town as a temporary base and play upon what sympathetic emotions the townspeople possess. The Druid and Bard could then attempt to lead the militia astray through a variety of means and then either take over the Tiefling's command or concoct some wild scheme to scare them out of town or spirit the conscripts back to safety.

The captured fighter is a little difficult. Suppose his group gets ambushed and he escapes with some symbol of authority from the commander? That can provide the town with new ammunition against the Tiefling and provide a new route for trouble from other directions.

cervantes

i don't think so. he named himself cervantes, then claimed he was lawful evil. the other two are nuetrals. alighnment isn't all that important in my games... mostly just help the players guide their characters...

I think that Cervantes was looking for a reward for fighting or a position in the military. He didn't like the teifling and almost killed him while he was ensnared. the bard stopped him.

As far as his reasoning for telling the captian about the small fight with ulgrim (name for the teifling), i do not know.

I like your suggestions on the lord gathering some of the familess members of the town... i will probally use that... i thought about having the teifling kill the old lord though...

How i will get cerventes back... humm... maybe i will have the commander ride his small group into the forest of mirthwood and have them attacked by a tribe of forest goblins, ghostwise halflings, or wood elves... prehaps just some beast... if cerventes is freed... he will be lost in the woods... prehaps i will have a lone surviver of the battle free cerventes and run from the battle with him... and let him have wilderness lore, inuit direction, and tracking........ or maybe the druids long lost mother will find him.... hmmmmmmm...

My reasoning for this start is to give the characters a good beginning to a much longer game.. this is mostly a history campaign for the members of the party to develop the characters and their relationships to each other. In the end i want to get most of Samsur destroyed and the people either killed or disperssed throughout unther. This will free the adventures as mercenaries and allow them to choose their corse together. I may have them return to the ruins of samsur later to recover some artifacts or something, but for the most part.... i want to be a rat bastard to them....
