[+] Here's my ideal future 5E supplement

The idea of a Basic+Expert+Advanced game was mentioned during 5e playtest years. It's kind of still there really, if you consider some low-complexity character choices vs high-complexity, but it's not presented upfront in the books, and the low/high complexity range is not that big.

I would actually prefer if WotC extended the range downward, for example by providing a super-simple Wizard archetype and Cleric domain.

As for higher complexity choices, I would like more well-designed feats for sure, and I am looking forward to the alternative class features that Mearls mentioned last year.

I am not sure the monsters need more complexity instead. For that, and to increase the challenges, the recipe is there already :

- complicate the environment
- freely add class abilities, feats or magic items to monsters
- study monsters tactics at themonstersknow.com

This is a plus thread.

If you want to argue against the premise of the thread, start a new one.

I'm not. I said I supported it.
I’m just not supporting the delusion that this will remotely be a product that WotC will make or one that supports their audience.

Look, if you want to DISCUSS things, then a message board is a great place. But then you’re going to have to accept the fact people will disagree with you. If you just want to share ideas, make a blog.

Seriously, what’s the point of the thread if you’re not going to make the book and just want to wishfully imagine something that might be.
Yeah, it’d be nice. It’d also be nice to have a big deluxe FR boxed set with a cloth map with coupon for a PDF copy. We can dream about our ideal campaign setting product for days. But if after that time nothing productive is getting done you might as well have smoked a big load of opium and dreamed about having your APH.

Basic = free pdf.
Expert (Standard?) = PH only, w/o optional rules.
Advanced = Add optional PH rules & supplements - exactly which ones depends on the DM.

With all respect, a lot of things were mentioned and even promised in the years before it was clear 5E was a success and WotC realized they didn't need the support of those people any longer.

This is a + thread on the topic of creating new more advanced books for character creation and monsters. If you're going to go off topic and make passive aggressive attacks on the developers, start anther thread.

Seriously though, I think it's pretty clear at this point that you don't know what a + thread actually is. It's not so you personally get to dictate whatever anyone else says or you get to tell them to shove off. It's meant to keep the topic more on the positive side instead of constant criticism and unwarranted attacks on people. Like what you just did. :hmm: And it's not negative or criticism to say WoTC won't create these books, that's just a statement of fact. If would be against the spirit of a + thread to come in and make a comment about how or why your idea is bad or would suck, but I don't think anyone has done that unless I missed it.

Bottom line, if you don't think a comment is appropriate, report it to the mods and stop acting like jr. policeman where you think you have control over others. You do that a lot, telling other people what they are allowed to post.

Questioning the point of the thread is exactly what you don't get to do in a plus thread.

Plus Threads are great when you have a question and would like it answered without debates or want to do some design and don’t want people derailing the thread. It’s a request to keep things on topic. This is neither. This is just you sharing your idea.
You can’t just declare “plus thread” and silence criticism.

What other response do you really want? Other people sharing their ideal products? (I have some cool ones myself.) Or do you just want lots of people telling you what a cool idea you had?

What it is is a marker that derails, such as discussions on plus threads, are to be taken elsewhere.

You are free to discuss this matter, but start a new thread, not here.

And do you think your post is on topic? No, didn't think so.

If you don't care for my "ideal future 5E supplement" and don't want to add your own (or can't, without crapping on others ideas) then the plus sign means to stay out of the thread.

Simple.

No.

There is my answer. Not being witty or anything else. Just a simple "no". I'm not going to do what you tell me because you don't have that power. Especially when you've spend at least a half dozen posts in this thread telling people to take any topic you deem not relevant to advanced books to a different thread and literally just made an off topic post yourself attacking the designers of not caring about people like you. Can you not see the giant irony/hypocrisy/double standard in that? Serious question.

Do you know what I think about the topic? I think an advanced set of books is a great idea, actually. I don't see WoTC doing that because they already did. That was the whole point in the philosophy of "if people use feats or ASIs, PCs should be able to adventure right alongside each other." That was their answer to the question of having basic chargen right along more complex chargen. Obviously you want more than that. Which is perfectly fine; I'm sure a lot of people do. So make it. Do it. Don't create a thread telling others to shove off who don't agree with you or aren't on topic when you yourself are doing the exact same thing you're telling other people to shove off for. Good lord...
