D&D 5E Here's why we want a Psion class

Are psionics not intended then for Eberron or the Nentir Vale?

Heck if I know. I ignore all the settings above. I was basing that off of the many posts equating psionics with Dark Sun. I've never actually played in any of them.

Occult classes are far more interesting and appropriate for a fantasy setting than 3rd edition psibollocks.

It's notable that the vast majority of computer game adaptations also cut psionics (including the Eberron ones). The only ones I can think of that have it are the two Dark Sun games.
Dreamscarred Press psionics is far better than the Paizo Occult classes. Because WE said so.

Most settings have psionics. Dark Sun leaned heavy into them, but Eberron, Nentir and, well, FR have them all as well, and especially Planescape to boot

Experience. It was broken garbage. Made the Mystic look well balanced.

To be fair, the 3rd edition version wasn't broken. It was just a rather bland and unnecessary alternative-rules-wizard.

Dreamscarred Press psionics is far better
I'm happy to accept that, but it seems the height of irony to point to the goodness of a 3PP whist rejecting 3PP psionics rules for 5e, and at the same time insisting WotC must make something resembling the Dreamscarred rules.

I think that both Dreamscarred psionic classes and Paizo Occult classes bring different and interesting things to the table. One thing that the Occult classes do well is tap into the spirit themes that we associate with paranormal psychics: e.g., spirits, phantasms, and ghosts and the like.

Great, so I'll reiterate my initial suggestion: go hog wild with a full-on Psion class for Dark Sun. And maybe Planescape? Use "add ons" (like the current UA) for other settings (as well as Dark Sun, Planescape)

Or have one class tuned for Dark Sun, and another for Planescape?

As soon as you commit to this idea that some classes are intended for some settings, the possibilities are endless.

I'm certainly not asking for that. I only have a tangential interest as to whether or not WotC creates psionic rules, mostly because WotC's changes tend to have ripple effects on what sort of homebrew gets created.

Sure. I do think the Occult classes are good; I just think the DSP stuff is better.

From what I’ve read on Keith’s blog and listened to on the Manifest.Zone podcast, Keith associated psionics with Sarlona, the Quori, and the Kalashtar because he didn’t want to flood Eberron with psionics.

Having psionics utterly permeate a setting is Dark Sun’s thing, which Keith wanted to avoid.

EDIT
good gravy, I really didn’t get enough sleep last night

So yes, Psionics are a thing in Eberron, but nowhere near the degree they are in Dark Sun.
