Heroes of High Favor: Halflings

Not at all. However, I am a humorless old git that does have something against what I perceive as whimsicism in game design. ;)

Ahhh...a lovable, old curmudgeon. Bless ye...

Wulf, I love the dirty fighting stuff. Great concept. And it's no gimme to use it either. While saddened at the lack of "angry penguin" in the preview, I understand. I guess I can wait a few more days to show up at my FLGS.

But the previews look nice. I'll let you know what I think of the book as soon as I can get my hands on a copy.

Hey Wulf, what's going on with this book? As far as I can tell from the Bad Axe website, the book is available now. I don't see a way to order it, though.

I want, I want. I need, I need. Me me me me....help!

At the rate that $10 is burning a hole in my pocket, I'm not going to have any pants left soon... For the good of everyone around me, please help me out here!

Please plunk your cash down at your local retailer and ask him to order the book!

The books are indeed in my hands, but they will not be available for sale on our website until they have made their way through the distribution channels to retail.

I appreciate the interest-- see if you can't infect your local retailer with it!

Tracer, we will have the books as soon as they make it through the pipeline. I can't wait to get my hands on this one either.

BTW, are you coming to the game day on the 15th? Follow the link in my sig.

I can verify that Osseum has received Halflings in their warehouse and are shipping to distributors.

Curt, check your promotional materials from Osseum, I have authorized them to offer some special bundles when you order more than one Heroes of High Favor title...

Cool. Can you put up a post when you get them in? I want copy #2 right after you get yours... If you could even hold one for me, that'd be great.

Regarding gameday, I cannot make it. There is a wedding in the family that day. I suppose that's the price of having such a large family...

I would have liked to do it, though. How often does a "gameday" take place? I'll try to make it to the next one...

Good grief, man... I just noticed you're in Shaumburg. Why order direct from me when you could be supporting the finest game store in the Midwest...? Indeed, in the world! :D

For shame! Get your books from Games Plus (Mt. Prospect)... They've done a great job supporting Bad Axe!

Plus, if you sign up at the cash register there, once you hit a certain spending total (not all at once, you can keep adding it up), then they give you like $10 in product for free. That's a free Heroes of High Favor book, right there!

Seriously-- support your local retailer!

hehehe...if you only knew how often I am in that store. I work even closer to it than I live. I stop in on my lunch break frequently. I fully intend to get the book there. And I always put my purchases on my dm's account, that way he can get the $10 off of stuff. Just a way to say thank you to the underappreciated dm. It's a good idea for all players. (I bet that all dm's wish this was over in the general forum so more people might see that...)

I will get the book from Games Plus. I was just confused when I read on the Bad Axe website that it was available, but it was not at the store.

Games Plus is the finest gaming store that I've ever seen, and they will continue to get my business, until I have no more money to spend...

So if someone over there wants to alert me when the books show up (hint, hint Thalmin)...

And as a side note, how come more people aren't posting in this thread? This halflings book looks so packed with goodies...I can't believe more people aren't interested! The dirty fighting preview was so cool! I am most interested in finding out what that angry penguin is...the bluffs and feints chapter...

IT ALL SOUNDS SO COOL! Not that I'm anxious or anything...

Sigh...I suppose I should get back to work, eh?

Keep me posted!

From what I've seen of the previews, the book looks awesome! I was a little worried at first, since Wulf wasn't writing it (instead it was one of the guys who always loses at Batreps), and because of the cover that implied it would be a book about hobbits. I love the 'gypsy' angle the author took.

For me, one of the most exciting, infuriating, and disappointing aspects was Dirty Fighting. I love the way how you can now use your sneak attacks for stuff other than killing; unfortunately, I was working on a similar system. However, the disappointing aspect is the task resolution: just about every d20 action uses a d20 roll plus a modifier to calculate task resolution; the dirty fighting system uses a dice pool of d6s to calculate the task resolution. I know it sounds small, and it is, overall seems really great. I can't wait for the Halfing Rogue/Fighter!

Any news about Gnomes, Grim Tales, or the Anthology?

Thanks... Jeremy really infused the whole work with some great mood and ambience. Towards the end of the project I shored up some of the crunchier parts but made sure to keep writing to the same mood Jeremy had created.

[inside joke](I am sure he'll find your batreps comment funny-- cause really, it could have been worse: could have been Andy.)[/inside joke]

Well, not exactly. Notice that most of the Dirty Fighting results require a saving throw from the victim. So in this case, the d20 resolution is preserved-- the rogue's sneak attack dice still equate to "damage" and the victim makes a save against that damage-- not unlike a save vs. coup de grace, for example.

The "DC" for the sneak attack dice doesn't have to be looked at as a "resolution mechanic"-- it's simply the minimum damage that the attack must do in order to have any effect. I could just as easily have written, "If the sneak attack dice used for the Crippling Strike total at least 15 points of damage, the opponent must make a saving throw..." etc. and you'd have been all set.

So don't get nitpicky. ;)

The rogue/fighter-- the Blood Grifter, by the way-- is one of my favorites. You'll learn to love those dirty fighting techniques, as well as the improved bluffs/feints.

Any news about Gnomes, Grim Tales, or the Anthology?

Gnomes, unfortunately, rest on the success of Halflings, otherwise they'll appear in the Anthology, which would then be scheduled to appear after Halflings has a chance to move through the system.

Grim Tales will be finished very soon...
