They are not alone, but they are rare - one established group of higher level adventurers,
who teleport, kill liches, stop armies - and may want to end the world.

The Queen of the Faeries has a "court" that could be considered an adventuring party- two Bards, a standard nymph, fighter, duskblade, and pixe sorcerer. but they noramally accompany the queen - who is about twice thier level/ CR

Two smaller less well known groups. one of which has been sent to help the PCs "save the world" or at least help as much as level 4-6? characters can.

The Royal Geographic Society normally has expiditionary groups that travel during the summer, (or winter if they are going to nicer climates) with 1-3 expeditions being launched each year. Its the only adventuring guild per see.

After 45 sessions or so we've never even heard of another adventuring group around. We're it. We're the heroes and I like that.

There are certainly PC-classed NPCs in the setting. They just don't routinely risk their lives like foolish us. :) ('course they don't become famous heroes either so...)

I never really thought of an actual adventuring group that isn't the PCs. I guess I do have them though. There's 2 bounty hunters that make appearances once in awhile as they are crossing paths with the PCs while looking for a bounty.

You could also say that my reoccurring bad guys are also adventurers :)

I'm of the opinion.. why not? Have huge numbers of groups. Even if you have 1% of the population as 'heroes' then in a 500,000 person nation, that still means 5000 people. Some few should be rich and retired (and anyone rich enough to retire should generally be famous, since the profession tends to have a high mortality rate) but most should be struggling. That doesn't necessarily mean that they're all level 1 weaklings.. just that they haven't hit the 'big score' that the retired ones have. So most of them should be mercenaries, thieves, assassins, and others in unsavory work, or have left that job. Others should guardsmen, of course, but they should be the higher-ranked ones that still patrol or be the 'chief who took a desk job after an illustrious career' type. Others are probably nobles, and only adventured for a little while to gain enough fame to make themselves more notable at court.

Mostly though, they should be described as "Those stupid idiots who went off and left the village... and will probably never return." (Bonus points if that's what the villagers of the PCs' hometowns think of the PCs.)

As others have stated, there is no "adventurer" profession. There are small groups of mercenaries, witch hunters, sorcerer covens, ect... that fill a similar roles
