I remember being at GenCon the year HeroQuest premiered. I got a nice full set of black plastic monster minis, much cooler than the green, white, and gray ones that came with the actual game.
I played the hell out of that game. I can't remember much specifically, though I do know that it probably used up all my interest in dungeon crawls. I have almost never run a real dungeon crawl since starting D&D, even though I loved coming up with them back during HeroQuest, when I'd just play it with my cousins, friends, or brother.
Then I got into Battletech, and somehow lasers and jumpjets proved a bit more engaging. But I still love the old HQ game. I remember at least once the 'adventurers' were heading down a hallway when it began to flood, and I thought that was the coolest thing to ever happen in a dungeon.
Do you have the bonus adventure packs they sold? I can't recall the names, but there were two or three. Something about a Skeleton King for one of them. And then there was one Dwarf-themed, and one Elf-themed one too, I think.
