Hide and Move Silently vs Draconians

Draconians have the following sense abilities.

- Darkvision 120 Ft
- Low Light Vision
- Blindsense 60 Ft
- Scent 60 Ft

Blindsense says "The creature usually does not need to make Spot or Listen checks to pinpoint the location of a creature within range of its blindsense ability, provided it has a line of effect to that creature".

Does this effectively make them impossible to sneak up on? (ie, does it immediately become aware of any creature that enters its blindsense area)?

The limits and effects of Blindsense will have a huge impact on an encounter I plan on running tomorrow. I had planned on having the players overhear a conversation between some Draconians and some other people. If they cannot get close enough without being detected, if I run it as planned, they will simply be slaughtered.

Have them overhear from the other side of a thin wall, or through a closed door or similar.

Near the trash heap, too, to screw up the scent.

Personally, when I was playing a rogue, I hated all the ways everything in the game had of making my Hide checks useless.

No they don't.

Draconians have 60-ft darkvision and low-light vision. They do not have blindsense or scent. They have the Dragon type, but not all of the Dragon type abilities. Refer to the Dragonlance Campaign Setting (pp. 33-37).

You say page 33-37, I say page 215

Then there is a contradiction.

If you go by the character creation notes for Kapak and Baaz characters on pages 33 through 37 in the DLCS, then your right, they do not have these abilities.

But if you go by the monster entries on page 215 of the same book, it says the following:

"Dragon Traids (EX): Immune to sleep and paralysis efectgs, darkvision 120 ft, low light vision, blindsense 60 Ft, Scent 60 Ft"

So, which is correct?

Regarding the other suggestions, the encounter will take place outdoors, so there is not much in the way of walls and / or trash heaps handy.

I may end up going with the character creation take on them, since it does make alot more sense for the CL of these creatures, though I may also let Aurak Draconians retain them. Still, I would like an 'official' answer.

Complete Adventurer has a feat, Darkstalker, forces those with blindsight/sense, tremorsense, etc. to make spot/listen checks to notice you.

Probably not gonna help much, though.

Yes.

As noted Draconians have had their blindsence taken away, so it is a moot issue though.
