High Diplomatic Characters

Dear lord! Your players might start solving problems with TALK intead of violence! This is Dungeons and Dragons, not Crumpets & Compromise! Make all of their foes rabid, and deaf, who react to all stimuli with mindless violence.

No, seriously, you're just going to have to cope. If it starts to become a problem, talk to your players about it.

Well, yeah, but if it all comes down to a die roll, that's not much fun, and not particularly good roleplaying either... so I can see where the problem lies.

There are lots of monsters that for some reason or another can't be persuaded. Further, I wouldn't feel bad about ruling that people who are actually busy fighting you to death, as opposed to just being "hostile", are impervious to attempts at diplomacy. Unless you pull out something very important for them, maybe.
