Hello all,

I've mentioned before that I am writing up a new campaign setting and I feel pretty excited and inspired by it. I found an old notebook recently with some notes from my last campaign - wow, some embarrassing stuff in there. :) When I started writing this new campaign, I decided there were a lot of things I wanted to do differently, mostly in terms of magic items, pacing and preparation, but also more flavor - more details, more organizations, better NPCs, etc.

So how about you? Knowing what you know now, how would you design and/or run your campaign differently, or for the players, what would you want your DM to do differently?

I would have planned for high-level play at the beginning of the campaign. I would have detailed the high-level characters in the campaign setting (if only names or monster types) at the beginning, so that I would have had names to drop when the PCs reached higher levels and began to interact on the world stage.

That's a really good one - I hadn't thought of that directly, just things like who's the leader of that organization/town or whatever, but having a couple of semi-detailed high-level NPCs around is a really good idea.
