Hirst Molds - Update

Bagpuss

Legend
I've just ordered my first set of molds, Gothic Church, Gothic Dungeon and Various Floor tiles.

I know some people here have had some molds for a while and I was wondering if you had any advice or models you wanted to share/show off?

I've gone with these molds getting the church mold to do a building or two for Wargaming.

Hirst Mould #201 - Floor Tiles Various Sizes
Hirst Mould #45 - Gothic Dungeon Builder
Hirst Mould #54 - Gothic Church Mold

I've used the Hirst art molds for a long time - around three years or so. I ordered from him when he had a grand total of three molds.

My number one piece of advice is to use dental plaster. It is absolutely worth it.

Number two, buy a food dehydrator to dry bricks.

Number three, just keep casting bricks for a few days before you start building - it can get frustrating to dive right in when you do not have enough bricks.

Number four, I use tacky glue and I like it a lot.

Number five, I use linoleum tile as a base for most of my projects and glue felt to the bottom of this.

I have a few pictures of things I have built with my hirst arts molds in my story hour. The current episode has a sewer I made from Hirst blocks and a few other things.

Good luck, and let us know how it goes!

Yeah I bought some dental plaster but the stuff I have seems to set really quick.

I have to scrap it within 3 mins and by about 11 mins its hard enough to pop from the mold. Still it means I can rapidly recycle the molds for more castings, unfortunately it means I can only fill one mold at a time, as by the time I've filled the first one the plaster has got too thick to bang the bubbles out.

So far I've done a doorway, corridor, small room and a corner, and three walls of a Gothic Church.
