I will second Dungeon, Fire, and Sword. I found it to be quite easy to read. Lot of stuff about Jerusalem and Saladin and the Templars.

Any local college or public library will have sources for you, but one of the easier reads would be John J. Robinson's Dungeon, Fire and Sword concerning the Knights Templar.

I'll second (or third, or fourth) this recommendation. Fun, fun read.

Well, I believe that today's St. John's Ambulance is an order that evolved from the Knights of Malta, who in turn evolved from the Knights Hospitaller, one of the other main orders of Crusader knights other than the Templars. If that evolution is correct, I find that pretty cool....

Here's a book I was flipping through at Chapters that looked pretty informative. I was thinking of ordering it, but will finish another historical text I'm reading first.
