Actually, I like the criticism. Helps me figure out what works, and what I've got to spend more time on. My faces used to be pretty scary, but I spent god knows how long working on them...now I like 'em. Just need to know the areas to focus on...like not cross-hatching skin
That technique and the smudge stick are the two most overused by starting illustrators...
I agree crosshatching is appropriate in cloth and fabric. I tend to use contour in my flesh.. circular shading to soften and accentuate the musculature.
Overall I think you have a great and personal style UnD. My only suggestion is to keep at it. Your anatomy can be off a bit for comic and fantasy work if it fits your style, but it needs to be presented concisently in your works.
Your line/inkwork is great, but I'd love to see some shaded depth pencil work.
