Personally, I tend to take a dim view on people who state opinion as fact. I refrained from posting, though, as I didn't want to add to the tension. I also watched deleted scenes from Goldmember so I could laugh away my anger. It worked.
I went with the second option also. There's always things that are in your mind as the DM that the players will not know and you have to keep your eyes open for those times when their not knowing something could mess up the game.
