[Hivemind] Lamingtons, pavlova, and yum stuff from around the world!

WizWrm, I've seen on other boards that some people are having a lot of trouble getting onto this one. (There's probably a thread about it here somewhere.)

Hi EK, Hi Hive. How is everyone? I woke up at 3am so started reading a new novel. It was very scary, so then I had to phone Atticus at 4:30am (1:30pm Oz time) so he could tell me that everything would be okay. Witchhunting during Cromwell’s era was nasty.

Death? scared? ... oh I forgot, you're only a little death :p

Not really scared of death, more of torture and being completely defenceless. Such marvels as ‘swimming’ the witches. Tie the witch up and throw her in the river. If she floats the ‘pure and holy’ water has rejected her then she’s a witch. If she doesn’t float (ie sinks to the bottom and drowns) then she was innocent. Of course, she’s now dead, but at least we know she was innocent.

Morning Hive!

Ran a game of Buffy yesterday morning and it was fun. THe system is disarmingly simple and cinematic. I keep findng myself reaching for the dice and then going "nope... I'm in charge of this game, I don't NEED dice".

Then ran a game of Omega World last night. I've played Gamma World in MANY incarnations, including campaigns of 1st, 2nd, 3rd (my fave), and 4th edition Gamma World (never checked out fifth edition - the Alternity version). Well... Omega World is a LOT more wild-and-wahoo than previous editions and we couldn't stop laughing... Every time something bad would happen, Denise's character would start to hyperventilate (poor respiratory system and a fear response) and then would pop out of existance for a round or two (time slip ability). Two of the three characters were dumb as bricks, and the last had a 22 Int, small size and fragile (double damage from weapons)... he was a 3-foot tall human with exposed double brains.

We laughed... we laughed some more... and we laughed again.

PS: Love the quick-reply.

And, in conclusion, after downloading the demo of Command & Conquer: Generals, I have determined that it does, in fact, suck.

But I just picked up "Guards! Guards!" which is turning out OK, and I finally found an avatar I like (which I found yesterday, actually).

I was just discussing build-and-conquer games yesterday (between Buffy and Omega World) for about 45 minutes, and we all agreed that the Westwood games (except for the DUNE series) are inferior... While they have a distinct cool factor, they tend to be unbalanced for multi-player play and also feel like they were rushed out the door in the end. Also, the inability to play as allied teams during multi-player has it so my wife and I don't play them.

On the other hand, we are all fans of Starcraft and Galactic Battlegrounds.

Of the discworld novels, my faves are by FAR the ones set in Ankh-Morpork. Guards Guards, Men at Arms and Pyramids are my all-time faves.

Can't stick around, it's my elest daughter's birthday.

Have to make her Eggs Benedict and then run a D&D game for her.

:)
