[hivemind] Look on my works ye mighty and despair

yep its Hanh - pronounced by my linguistically challenged friends as Han - as in Han Solo...

I can't even phoentically represent it the correct way. It's Vietnamese.

Nice name. I thought it might have been Asian, but wasn't sure.

THERE IS A WAY!:D Record your name into your computer mic if you have one. Save it as a wave file. Upload it to some website, and post a link here. THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY!...though this is a bit extreme.:D

hehe obviously I'm not trying hard enough to reinforce my Asian-ess around!

(just j/k but nearly all my PCs are Asian and I think everytime someone asks for description, that comes up)

;)

That only works if *I* can pronounce it. I don't have an Vietnamese accent.

Actually *cough* I have a bit of a southern belle thing going at times when I get excited.

Now how funny is that - a little asian lady with a southern accent.

Nothing wrong with that. Actually it would make a nice change of pace from the same old caucasian PC's I have in all of my games.

Well... perks of being a phonologist, I know the IPA (International Phonetic Alphabet). Of course, most of it can't be represented in Verdana! But, Kitana, if you can tell me what each sound sounds like I can turn it into the IPA!

Can't put it here, but I could attach it in a Word file with a link to download the IPA font!

And there's me being sad.

I assume the first sound is like the [h] in "house", though?

yep

Haaaaa (this part I can pronounce)

then it gets funky...its got an accent an '.' dot if you under the 'a' so that it sounds alot like...er...I don't even know how to do it...

Then call up your folks, find an old home video! You can do it!

Triple whammy on my list!:D
I like:
A- Little women.
B- Asian women.
C- Women with ANY accent.
Actually make that a quadruple whammy:
D - SMART women.

Is there an English word you can think of that has the vowel in it? (If not, that's OK.) Or, is there an English vowel that sounds quite like it? I can't do IPA well here but:

[a] like in "father"?
[ae] like in "cat"?
like in "mutt"?

Random guessing going on: is it a nasalised vowel? (One that's pronounced through the nose. Eg, does it sound like the end of a French word that ends with an "n"?)
