They're ethereal creatures called notes (called that because they speak in music). They appear as fluctuating balls of light, but can go invisible at will on the material plane. They are attracted to a bard's mystical music.

EDIT: Oh, and a bard gets a new one every 5 levels, starting at first...so they end up with 5 notes at level 20. Their stats are nowhere near as cool as a familiar's though, and they have no real use in combat (can't deliver touch spells, etc...) but they can give the bard some groovy abilities, and after a while can be used to report on the look of things in the ethereal plane.
Neat. I was just about to ask what they do, when your edit came through. :) Do they change colors in tune with the music like some mp3 players?

Yes, as well as with emotion. The funny thing is that the language they speak changes depending on how many others speaking it around, and the emotions they are speaking in, as to remain in the same tune and beat. No matter how man are talking, or even shouting at each other, it sounds like music.

So when a bunch are together, do they have an additive ability, like with the martial arts style chains in Oriental Adventures? Like chords or harmonies.

Hello, Hive :)

As Steve has probably seen already, I'm in the midst of making war, but the site keeps going up and down. Still, I've made over 1 1/4 million so far tonight :D How is everyone else doing?

Not really. The notes give abilities to the bard based on their personalities (apathetic, bad tempered, cheery, controlling, etc...). I think they're plenty powerful right now without adding combo moves :D

16 ranks should be enough, that's a minimum 13th level bard.

Yeah, but I was just thinking that a 90 foot radius Fear effect may be a little powerful at 13th. Maybe not :)

Yeah, I saw. AGP... is also starting. It was down for a while, but now it seems to be up. It's been doing this the past couple days. I'll start soon.

Oh, in that case, then 18 might be better. Is that effect on all the time?

Edit: UnDfind, We're talking about Outwars.

Ah, just talking Outwar for a brief moment. I still can't load the page, Steve - if you can, let me know, I'll give you the info for my account and you can take care of something, because I'm a little exposed right now :o

Anyway, are we talking bards here? My favorite class! :D I'm getting ready to try a Monte Cook spellsinger style bard soon (as a cohort - bardic cohorts rock! Brave Sir Robin ran away... :D)
