Bard
The wandering minstrels and storytellers travel Fellous, collecting stories, telling new ones, and generally attempting to bring a bit of liveliness into the mundane lives of those around them. These folk are some of the most important, but least regarded of all those in Fellous. Minstrels bring news from far off lands, and teach a bit of history with every tale they weave. The minstrels and storytellers of Fellous ensure that none forget the past, or lose hope in the future.
A rare few of the minstrels in Fellous find that they possess strange abilities, both mystical and powerful. They find that through their music, they are able to bring about feats of magic by tapping into a mystical source known as the Stream. Wizards and Incanters also use the Stream, but bards are unique. They work in harmony with the stream, gently coercing it into action, rather than enforcing their will upon it. The way bards of Fellous interact with their source of magic is known as “Charming the Stream.”
Bards receive the following changes:
• Accompaniment (Levels 1, 5, 10, 15, 20):
The bard may choose to receive a new companion note every 5 levels, beginning with level 1 (see sidebar for details). To call a new companion note, the bard need only make a Performance skill check (DC 10). If the bard is able to gain a new companion note, one shows up.
A bard may communicate with his note mentally, but the note only responds with yes or no answers until the bard reaches 5th level, when he may communicate normally with his notes. At 10th level, others may hear his notes speaking, and communicate with them if they know how.
The abilities gained by a note are effective until the note is over 1 mile away. The bard may mentally communicate with his notes until this point as well.
Companion notes may be dismissed at any time. A companion note that dies, or is dismissed forces the bard to make a Fortitude save (DC 10 + note’s HD) or lose 200 experience X the note’s HD. A note may not be called to replace the dead or dismissed companion for three months, and the Perform check DC to call the replacement companion note increases by 10 (making it DC 20).

Note Companions
A bard’s music fills the area around him with magical energies. These performances can serve to attract all sorts of creatures, good and bad. One of the oddest beings attracted to a bard’s music, however, is a Note.
Notes are creatures of the ethereal plane that are musical in nature. They appear as pulsating mists of light, though they are completely invisible to those on the material plane. Notes are creatures of intellect, and their language is musical in nature. As innately magical creatures, a note who has attached itself to a bard can bestow abilities of a mystical nature to their companion. The function of the abilities bestowed by a note is different depending on the specific note’s disposition.
Note’s Disposition/Ability Bestowed

Competent / The bard’s Inspire Competency ability gives a +4 competence bonus to its target instead of +2.

Note Statistics: Statistics for notes may be found in the Creature section, but these changes are made for all bard companion notes:
• Hit Dice: The note’s HD is equal to one-half the bard’s level, rounding down.
• Hit Points: A companion note’s hit points are equal to one-quarter of the bard’s total, rounding down.
• Saving Throws: A companion note may use it’s own save, or the bard’s, whichever is higher.
