Don't know how i could, but shoot.

Hmm. Well, alright, here we go.

-----

Sometimes, in some books, you'll find cutscenes of the BBEG conversing with some underling, or something along those lines. Well, I've been thinking about doing such a thing in my online game... however, my primary problem is that I think I'd be giving away too much information. With this being an online game, the players can read and re-read the post, and could probably get quite a bit of information would of it (most of it would probably be incorrect, but there would still be that small amount that would be right), which bothers me.

However, it is a literary element that I'm interested in adding.

So in the end, the question is thus: is throwing in the cutscene for literary effect worth the effect it may have on gameplay?

There is also an additional concern:

In said game, I've been DMing it like it was real. When I say 'real', I mean I've been treating it as though everything were actually happening. Not like it were a game; but as though the setting was alive.

This is far from an epic-type game. Thus, I am not entirely certain if the literary device I detailed above would fit in with my DMing style or not. That is an additional problem that must be dealt with...

As an afterthough, yes. In the middle of a relevant situation where the divulged info could adversely affect game, no.

Well, here, let me explain the situation where I would throw it in...

Right now, the party is involved in a subplot-type encounter. Once its done, they have to continue journeying to the place they were headed when they were hit with the subplot. During that interlude is when I'm thinking of doing this.

There are some references made to some things that are in the library... not overly obvious, and they don't detail anything beyond saying that there is something there that could be important, but could that be game-affecting?

maybe rather than a "cut-scence" make it like a prophetic dream that one of the PC's has or something similar... but if the clues it gives aren't overly important or not readily available already, then it could be alright, but i've only run like 2 games (yes, i REALLY am a newbie)...

Well, they know there's something important where they're going, but the reference is to something else there... also, this is the first hint to the party that there is someone else manipulating the enemies they've encountered thus far.
