Strangely I wasn't super interested in 3rd as I never played 2nd and/or 1st edition. But I got sucked in (Im not sure how and or why) and now only sporadicaly play other, non-d20, systems :)

I did become vagely interested early though, I only posted on erics old board afew times, but I did post way back then :D

I had been playing 2nd edition solidly for a couple of years. I was initially sceptical against the new edition, but after seeing the previews in Dragon and on Eric's site I became excited quite quickly.

You and me both, buddy. :)

I was getting tired of the endless stream of supplements that weren't actually supplements but rather one-upsmanship contests. It was getting ridiculous how each books of "kits" was making the last batch weak. I'd always been a core rules guy and I could barely find players anymore who wouldn't try to drag the latest book full of crap into my game. Trying to balance a game where each player would attempt to add in new material (that always outstripped what the last guy brought) was impossible. It was less like running a game full of interesting characters than like negotiating an arms race between the greedy players...

That did happen to me with homebrew PrC's and Races as well but then in 3rd. It took some convincing and a big fight to get that sorted :)

With homebrewed stuff you really have to make sure everyone knows in advance that after some playtesting you may make some adjustments. It's hard to get people to give up something they've come to expect.

Well it got stuck in a email conversation that turned from bad to worse, and it ended in one of my players using his manegement skills to get it sorted. But we are happily playin now :) I am going to a convention next time we were supposed to be playing and they are all screaming for a reschedule so I think The conflict is over :)
