Persephone comes along, a One but lacking something, possible the willingness to die for her beliefs. So she makes a deal with him and goes with him into exile, being made somehow into a program just like him. Persephone was the wife of Hades in greek mythology, the daughter of Demeter goddess of the harvest, so she may represent life in hell so to speak.

Then again, it could be absolutely nothing, and irrelevant to the next movie.

Persphone was kidnapped by Hades and tricked into eating the pomegranate seeds that bound her to his realm. Hmmm. The Wachowskis do like mythology.
