Nah...we were trying to kill the Overlord of the largest city on the planet, so I'd summoned a Planetar via Planar Ally. Unfortunately, the other side had a cleric with Unholy Word...and he got a natural 20 on his SR check. Bye bye Mr Planetar.

The four consecutive fireballs was what did for my character, though. Two mages with a good ability to guess ranges are a nasty combination. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! Argh.

Hey ho. Now I get to play a monk when I get back from York.

And no, we didn't even get near the Overlord. So far as I remember, we did scratch his protection from elements, though. That was about it.

The evil cleric in question was 15th level, so he needed a 15 or higher to beat the Planetar's SR of 30.

Simon took up the DM Dice Of Death, and promptly rolled a natural 20. Bah.

Yup. S'mon the DM was actually slightly apologetic about it, and told us later that when he rolled that he was convinced the whole party was going to die. The fact that only 1 PC died was quite amazing (although the two cohort deaths are another matter).

So, anyone have any good suggestions for monk characters? Tal "imitating Darkness" Arn.
