Yeah, they totally lied to you. I got out in 94 and was well aware I had Tricare Prime for life, and how I could get it for my family. the only thing I was shafted on was VGLI, but I was eventually able to successfully get it as well.

Have to admit my experiences with Tricare have been a lot better than Joe and everyone elses horror stories. Granted I had to fight them a little bit a few times, but I always won because they agreed I was in the right. Plus they had no problems with it, even grateful that I helped make the sytem work right. Pretty darn scary when I think too much about it.

When I had cancer the HMO was great. (10,000+ per kemo treatment)
But if I stay over night because a doctor wanted it- look out! They thought i had whooping cough and held me overnight. 1800 later- "oh- it's just an infection. You can go now."

Doesn't look good for Deathknell, Angelfire or Underdark figures this year. The %#$&@ bums.

Many of us are jealous of you folks in the Canadian & European health care systems.

...and then there are those of us who have experienced European health care while visiting abroad and are pretty darn happy with what is available in the US....failings and all.

Amazingly, we do have a wonderful nationalized health care system here in America. But, that is only for our military veterans through our VA hospitals.

Where did you come up with that?!

Talk to a disabled vet and ask him his opinion of the VA system.

When I exited Fort Hood, all of us in the Disability Retirement Listing briefing were told, in no uncertian terms, that we would NOT be covered under CHAMPUS/TriCare or any of the other medical insurance, that soldier's discharged after 1991 for medical conditions, line of duty or not, were not eligible.

That is absolutely mind boggling to me. When I was going through my medical discharge both the USMC and the Navy docs I dealt with went out of their way to provide me with as much info as possible.

I cannot express how pissed I would be if I were in your shoes.

Yeah, I went to a doctor while in France. Freaked me out a bit.

Of course, with the lousy insurance I have right now, I'll probably freak out a bit the first time we have a major medical issue in the family.
