Hold Person - Two Saving throws per round?!

And how do you know that? Were you sitting at the R&D table when hold person was statted out? Do you have some insider information? You always seem to make such statements of "fact" when it's really just your opinion.

All I have to go on was wotc did change the spell from 3E to 3.5, but left in the option for the victim to be CDGed. To me, that is saying the spells are intended as a death sentence.

Kind of a feat waste. A judicious Delay on the fighter's part will place him into CDG position.

Yeah, but fighters have feats to burn.

This little gem was from the same player that brought the idea into my group to sunder divine foci.

Absolutely nothing wrong with that. Especially if you are using a wand of Shatter. Sure it gets a Will save, but the look on the cleric's face when you do it is priceless.
