Sadly, that's not new, but it's still overkill. I think it comercializes Christmas more and more and makes it easier for the true meaning to get lost for people.
The religious meaning or the secular one?

If you are a proper redneck you never take the lights down :D

Back on the first week of October the local Wal-mart had their seasonal room really screwed up- Halloween, Christmas and the left over mowers and flower pots of summer.

As far as I'm concerned, no Christmas decorations should be up prior to the first Sunday of Advent.
Did anyone ever got excommunicated for violating that? Thou Shalt Not Deck the Hall and Don Gay Apparel before Advent?

I'm sure Oliver Cromwell would've had a few things to say on the matter.

My house, for the record, is decoration free. :) (where's a halo smily when you need one).

We haven't really decorated for the holidays since 1973 or so, except the occasional Hallmark "card-tree" or some such, and the odd nativity scene.

Haven't really missed it, either.

Someone tried to give me a wreath once.

Ended up in my bathroom as potpourri.
