I'm planning surprising my players with an adventure set in the pulp era Hollow Earth. I have in mind a direction I want the mystery of it all to go but I am worried my about what my vision of the HE is all about and what the players want, expect and need for an entertaining game in this setting. Because I am surprising them I won't be able to gauge their expectations.
So I ask, if you were the player, what would you enjoy in a one off? What would WOW you and make you want to turn that one off adventure into a longer game? ? What tropes are "must have" and which could you live without?
