Holy Cow! Wizards delegates...

As a store owner in Toronto, I have now had two WotC delegates on this program include me in their rounds. So, someone obviously thinks it's worthwhile.

P.S.: Not sure what WizKids fixes up their Heroclix judges with, but I doubt they're getting paid cash. Yet, again, I've got no difficulty lining up a judge.

Feh.

With such a "Robust" rewards offering, I am sure that Wizards will capture the 'creme de la creme' of the gaming community to feature and present their games to the world.

May Gawd have mercy on all our souls. . .

Agreed

If one were so adamently interested to be able to promote all their products.... wouldn't that person own them already? I see a slim benefit, unless the position of volunteer were used as a breeding groups for promotion into official sales ranks. I don't think that is the case though...

Speaking as a former Rep for a Steel company, Wizards would probably need to pay $3,500+ per month for a rep to service a two state area and make an almost liveable wage. I was paid $3,300 a month, but by the time I paid for gas, maintenance, hotels, food, and so on, I was making just about $18,000 per year. I worked 60+ hours a week. It would take $4,000 a month for me to consider going back to being a full time rep.

For what little effort Wotc is asking, basically 2-3 8 hour days a month at most, you get boatloads of product. I've sent my letter in, I figure I'll get my game supplements for free, for doing things I'm mostly doing anyway.

How is that 2-3 8 hour days? All you have to do is make 3 visits to a gaming store per month. That could take anywhere between 15-45 minutes. From what I read, holding demos just earns you bonus stuff.

Before I receive hate-mail, I mean no disrespect to those here who are planning on taking on this responsibility. I'm speaking in general terms.

It seems, to me, that the people who would JUMP at this opportunity (and give it the seriousness they are looking for) would be just exactly NOT the kind of people I'd want singing the praises of my product. By-and-large we are talking about our stereotypical brethren here. I believe with all of my heart that these "delegates" will be slovenly, unwashed, and live in their parent's basement.

I've been a retail manager, I've been QA for Technical Support Agents, I cannot think of ONE person I've ever encountered who would do this both properly and for (in effect) free.

I can name 20 people who would do this for free BADLY. I can name 20 more that would do, for a reasonable stipend, an AMAZING job. I'm concerned that the majority would be such poor diplomats on behalf of WoTC/Hasbro that our hobby would suffer as a result. Heck, most of the LGS in my area are already such bad diplomats on behalf of the hobby that the large chains are deservedly taking their business.

I don't see anything in those who have posted here that tell me they would do a bad job, but I have to believe they are the minority. I'm certain that everyone reading can name 1-2 of their acquaintances that would do this but be an embarrassment to the hobby, the hosting store, and the industry.

/Customer Retention Specialist who takes this bloody seriously.

Considering that I spend every Saturday working at a game store for 12 hours, it is no big deal for me to take on this responsibility IF certain questions I have are answered regarding details that seem to be missing from the announcement on Wizards' boards. Hopefully I'll get those answers after the holiday weekend.

I'd rather have people who want to do it, rather than a lot of the people on this board that gripe about how it doesn't pay enough or is a waste of their time.

Really, it's not that hard a job... (if you can call volunteer work a job)

That estimate was a worst case scenario. I was actually including some time for demos (because I'd almost always run the maximum each month) and some drive time, just assuming you wouldn't be able to pick the 3 closest FLGS's and visit each once per month. If all I did was visit 3 shops and spent 1 hour at each, I could easily meet their minimum requirements in a 5 hour block.

I don't think it's a lot of work at all, and your "pay", while not cash, is considerable for the amount of work they expect. I actually had a friend who worked as a rep for Reaper miniatures for over a year, made a huge haul on minis, had a lot of fun going to every bloody Con in sight, and had his way paid to Gen Con once he established himself. And all that stuff you get "free" that you would have purchased anyway does free up the money you would have spent on it.

Bah, I'm primarily a D&D player, but the only D&D stuff offered are Core Books and minis. Ok, the minis are cool, but I don't want to have to learn like a half dozen TCGs just to get it either.

As for the "unwashed bum livng in his parents' basement", I'm sure the bit about WotC wanting people who can project a "professional" appearance applies here.
