Holy Symbols and Clerics?

First Post
In my current campaign, the party just killed a cleric of Hextor, who was wearing full plate with the holy symbol of Hextor etched into the plate mail. Due to the nature of the campaign, plate mail is extremely difficult to come by. One of the party members, a cleric of Pelor, is considering using the armor. He does not want to wear anything with the symbol of Hextor on it; however, it is not likely he will be finding any full plate armor any time soon. I was wondering if this might have any effect on the cleric outside of the obvious moral dilemma.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Generally it's NOT a good idea to wear something with the symbol of another god on it, UNLESS they are friends/allies.

By displaying the holy symbol of a god, the cleric is essentially proclaiming his works to be in the name of that god.

We had a cleric of Farlanghn in our group who was required to Atone for using the lacky garb and symbol of another god to sneak through a guardhouse (RtToEE). I don't see that as being out of line and I'd definitely hold using armor with Hextor's symbol as being at least as bad.

He could always have the symbol removed. Any armorsmith should be able to do it. For a fee of course!

Can't the cleric of Pelor get the thing burnished off? Bring the armor back to a Pelorian temple, put it on the altar, bless it, consecrate it, sprinkle Pelor water on it, and announce that this armor shall work to redeem itself and right the wrongs it was forged for. Then etch a symbol of Pelor in the chestplate.

That might be a little involved, but it's mostly RP, and I think if plate mail is that valuable, a cleric wouldn't just give it up because it has a foul symbol on it.

If he could somehow remove the symbol, and the armor isnt actually evil, he would be doing his god a service and converting what was once used for evil, into a tool of light.

and a very rightly deserved world of hurt for one with detect magic, i wouldnt put the thing on if it had the slightest bit of glowy goodness about.
