I'm not sure what category I'd fall into. I like to take a published framework, go down to the local level, and hyperdetail small villages and such as the player characters encounter them. Honestly, it's more work than many DMs ever do, but I don't normally get excited about working out country names, borders and all the other macro level stuff involved in homebrews.

I like world building (sig) and a certain amount of rules tweaking.

But, for everthing else I try to use published material (including adventures) when possible--but it isn't always possible. Still, I like world building so much I don't want to waste to much time on the details of every encounter

I usually take pre-existing worlds (usually the Forgotten Realms), and build my own adventures. I'm willing to make big changes (in my campaigns, Ulutiu is becoming an active power again).

With each succeeding campaign, I move more away from homebrew, and more towards pre-written stuff, mostly because of an increasing lack of time to devote to developing any homebrewed material. At this rate, within 5 years or so, I'll be hiring someone else to DM for me, too. ;)

My Winter Sea campaign is entirely homebrew with at least half of the world's monsters being unique. It pulled some of the best locales from previous homebrews and tied it into the theme of this setting. We've also instituted a large number rule changes to lower the level of magic and extend the high level playability. I still feel that it is very much a work-in-progress despite the reams of paper on locales, maps, adventure hooks, and so on...

Cheers!
