Little backstory I am preparing to run a homebrew campaign in Ravenloft and I am using Strahd as the BBEG I have immerse myself in the lore of Ravenloft new and old and have merge a few of them together. Patrina is a dusk elf that wanted to be turned into a vampire by Strahd but before it could be complete her bretheren stone her to death. I decide to bring her back as one of Strahds brides and has carved herself a spot in the city of Zeidenburg as the burgomaster which is from older version of Ravenloft. I have expanded Barovia. Her motivations are to become a full vampire and to eliminate Strahd indirectly. Also since there isn't a lot of lore on dusk elves I have transplanted the Shadar-Kai as well into the city and she is the leader of a group of them. The lore also said that she had some special powers so I add some cool psionics to her and to maybe some of her followers. My hope is that the party will use her as an ally but as everything goes combat is a possibility.

Interesting idea. I like the concept, and I applaud anyone who looks to "old" Ravenloft for inspiration.

The only question I would have is how she is able to work against Strahd. His other "brides" are vampire spawns, so I assume that's what your Patrina is as well (hence her desire to become a "full" vampire). I would think that any spawn of Strahd's would be devoted to protecting him (as his other 3 brides are) and probably of limited independence. In addition, Strahd is probably aware of her actions (and maybe even her thoughts) at almost all times.

What happened to her that let her think independently? A magical accident? A deal with the Dark Powers? Maybe a close encounter with an interesting magic item (that the players may need to find)?

Also, is Strahd still psychically connected to her? Giving her the psionic powers creates an interesting twist. Perhaps she is constantly struggling to block him from getting into her head so she can plot against him.

I think you have a really interesting villain here with the potential for a deep (maybe even redemptive) story.

I'm not sure how much control Strahd has over the vampire spawn I know they cant go against him directly but I think they can indirectly. For example she could give information to the adventuring party about castle Ravenloft in subtle ways or even give them items indirectly to help them defeat Strahd or give them some kind of chance at the very least. The other thing to like I said she had some special powers that Strahd wanted before he was trying to turn her. So with the injection of Psionics it could help her over come some of he's control maybe even cloud her movements to Strahd. Strahd might look at it like a game of cat and mouse and is amused by her attempts to show resistance. I did read that in some of the old lore he has a sister Lyssa von Zarovich that is a vampire cant remember how she got turned but she was constantly trying to dethrone Strahd and he dint take her seriously. I read it in Ravenloft Gazetteer from 3rd edition. So I took inspiration from that to create Patrina. This was my line of thinking. Im not sure if the stat block might be a bit to strong or not I might change some of her stats a little bit and tone her down a little bit so I can give her some minions for support if the party does go against her and not be to overwhelming. Thanks for the reply
