Hoofing It

Sorry to nitpick, but just keep this in mind. You shoe horses and their type of hoof, not cows and their cloven feet. There is a difference. Cows are not walking on their toes alone, but also their soles & heels.

So while horseshoes may work for centaurs, they won't work and will be painful to minotaurs/faun/satyr, etc for their cloven feet.

Also, in a role playing aspect, I would believe any minotaur, etc wouldn't want to wear traditional shoes. Anklet maybe, not not shoes. This goes in the same mindset that centaurs find it insulting to be riden.

Answered my own question:

Apparently it is called an Aubesian.

Also a centaur would be okay with your riding it as long as you let him ride you :D.

EDIT: It is an SNL skit so please be advised, nothing horrible involved but of course watch yourself (may be offensive if you or someone you love is a centaur).

I think everyone is missing a significant point here:

Minotaurs (which would have the same type of hoof as a Bull), and Fauns (which would have the same type of hoof as a goat), are not the same type of hooves as horses have.

A Horse has one, fully formed, semi-circular ring of keratinised tissue surrounding the two main toes of the foot (the outer keratinised portion is essentially the end of their third toe). Keratinised tissue is basically the same thing we humans have for nails. If you look at the bottom of a horses hoof, you'll see the hard ring of keratinised tissue surrounding the soft pad of the two other toes.

By comparison, cow (bull) and goat hooves have two toes...a cloven hoof. They do have keratinesed ends, but the toes can move independently (and do so for stability purposes). Shoeing their hooves would esentially be nailing their two toes together.

In other words, bull and goat hooves cannot be shoed.

What are you trying to say kitcik?

Those are not traditional horseshoes which they are shod with nail into the hoof.

I am trying to say that cows, bulls, goats and, by implication, minotaurs and fauns can wear shoes. They might not be shaped like human boots, or nailed into the hooves like horseshoes, but they are nonethless shoes.

This certainly provides an opportunity for magical footwear.

For instance, here are hoof slippers available for sale right now. Drovers shod their cattle in the nineteenth century.

I have five toes but I wear shoes...;)

I would say that they have the option of the shoe or the boot. Maybe they want the freedom of switching boots when they need to (i have 2 different magical sets of boots), or maybe they might want to just take off the boots when they come in out of the rain?

But some might just want to have the shoes, and not bother with ever taking them off.

Just remember, you cant "shoe" yourself. So switching horsehoes is not just a standard action.
