Because I just know one of my players is going to be boneheaded enough to try this at one point...

What would happen if someone were to fill a Wayfarer's Lantern with witchoil and light it?

Witchoil makes the local area coterminous with the Bleak Gate. You get a few screaming souls as the oil burns, and if you have the right magic (as mentioned in adventure five) you can make a permanent transition between the planes. Otherwise you're just in two places at once, and might piss off some ghosts.

Ah, so pretty much the same thing as shadow-attuned lantern oil. Or are they even different substances?

Witchoil is what the Ob use to travel to the Bleak Gate post-adventure 4 (at least, when they don't have the secret route in Flint available).
