Hours of play from a module?

Well, I think part of the problem is that my players are not good at taking charge and get stuff done, while at the same time, they say they very much prefer free will and no railroading:rolleyes:

So they tend to spend a lot of time doing very little or discussing things, which makes me think I have to push them a bit more, to get the ball rolling.

Another reason for speeding up play, is that we only play every third week, so in order to get any story developing, i would like to play faster. If we spend 4-5 sessions on an adventure, that means 12-15 weeks of real time! After playing the same adventure for so long, the players tend to loose track of any subtle storylines going on :(

Darklight, that's definitely a problem I've experienced both as a DM and as a player. Kajamba Lion started a thread recently on how to speed up gameplay, and there were some excellent suggestions there.

Railroading isn't necessary, your players will be glad to hear.

Hmm. I'd estimate (or guess, pick the term you like) that group probably spent more than 20 hours in the Heart of Nightfang Spire. I was really looking foward to a showdown with the boss, but some of fights seemed to get a little old. Spoilers below:

It seems like half the dang dungeon consisted of rooms with 3 girallons and 2 mohrgs, or some slightly different combination.

Thanks Pielorinho, thats one thread I have to read closely and save on my harddrive:)

Victim, that sounds like "Heart of Nightfang Spire" is not really worth it?

We've gotten 72 hours of play so far out of Keep on the Borderlands plus Forge of Fury (with a few homebrewed events in between, trip back to town, & such). We probably have 2-3 sessions (12-18 hours) left in Forge of Fury, too.

Of course, our balance of roleplay may not be the same as others':)

Forge of Fury - took somewhere between 12-16 hours for my group and I'm currently reusing the map as the party have returned there to make it their stronghold.

Speaker in Dreams - Took about the 12 hours before we ditched it part way through as a tedious adventure.

On average we get about two major combats a night (4 - 5 hours), or 3 to 4 smaller ones.

Yeah 72+ hours of play from KotB and FoF is more like what it would take for us and thats not really because we emphasize roleplaying...

Melan, while I agree that Tomb of Abysthor gives you many hours of play for your money, and its a fairly cool dungeon, the problem for my group is, as I mentioned, we only play every third week, and maybe 8 hours per session. That means that Tomb would take us 10 sessions (probably more at our pace) and that means 30 weeks! That seems like a very long time to play the same adventure, and it makes for a very slow story development. Maybe I have to make my own adventures and make them short, but relevant to the story, to move things along faster...
