How about a Pirates of Dark Water RPG?

I have the Pirates of Dark Water game!

Many of you may be surprised but the WAS a Pirates of Dark Water Game (sort of), it was published in 1994 by Mindgames. It was SUPPOSED to be a setting adaptable to any Fantasy RPG, but in fact it was a thinly (and I mean THINLY) veiled AD&D supplement. It even had monsters printed in the old Monster Compendium loose 3 hole-punched pages so you could place them in a binder.

I still have the book, but have not looked at it for a LONG time. I love the setting and saw most of the episodes. I even taped a marathon the Cartoon Network ran YEARS ago. As far as I can remember I was unimpressed by the adaptation the game presented, and the information presented seemed only to rehash what was presented in the show.

I would love a well done Pirates of Dark Water D20 book, as well as He-Man, Thundercats, and last but not least Silver Hawks, done with D20 Modern! With all the 80s nostalgia craze in comics and cartoons the time would be right for games on this shows.

We can always hope…

Found this website about the show...

I remember Pirates of Dark Water, though as was usual they never completed showing the series over here in the UK.

Actually, it never completed anywhere. The show was cancelled after its first season, with no resolution whatsoever. :(

Cartoon Network is ownd by Time Warner who owns Hanna-Barbera so they have the rights no contract needed.

I used to work for Warner Brothers and met/worked with a lot of the really good animators (many now passed on :( ) But a license from TW I think would be very hard to do and furthermore may not be profitable depending on how much money it cost to acquire that said license.

Now after saying that I will be happy to see if any of my old buds are there and have ever heard of them offering this.

We could do my favorite: Hong Kong Phooey d20 :D

AHHHH!
Hong-Kong Phooey, number one super guy! It'd be sad, but the uber-power of nostalgia wins out here. :) Scatman Cruthers was the best. He is missed. :)

Ukla the Mook right?

Man a sunsword *drool* and to ride with that sorcerer oh la la

Ookla the Mok (I once made a race for 2E, WAY back when, inspired by the Moks (phonetic spelling alert on that)). And hey, who didn't want a Sun-sword as a child! :D

Yeah, Thundaar was wicked-groovy. :) Herculoids wasn't that cool, not as cool as Thundaar. Honestly, I only ever liked Pirates of Dark Water AS a game world, never dug the cartoon much, but though it'd be a great game world at the time.

He-Man would be awesome, although I'd want to see both versions of Eternia (the cartoon version, and the much older version of the world, as seen in the little comics that came with the original toys, wherein He-Man was little more that a Barbarian or Fighter with some cool magic items and an axe (no Power Sword yet), no prince Adam or anything, he lived in a stone shack in the mountains).

Ahh, fun threads. :)

Pirates of Dark Water actually sparked the setting I eventually submitted to the Setting Search, by then very different. I just loved the whole "thousand islands" feel, and the HUGE Maelstrom (Bloth's ship).

May I remind those of you He-Fans that I DO have a Masters of the Universe 3e gallery, adapting He-Man to a workable DnD setting? I may even post He-Man's and Skeletor's stats if anyone's interested.

Just follow the sig...

don't you just hate it when that happens, popular or not, for consistencies sake they could at least let these things run to completion.

the cartoons when I was a kid were so much better than they are today. Sorry spongebob.

Does anyone remember the Conan cartoon show? [/B]

I can't believe you're knocking Spngebob.

Anyways, I was a big fan of Conan and made an elemental magic system based off the mage in the 2ed days. The main writer for the show also did the very cool Conquest of Camelot and Conquest of the Longbow for Sierra (as well as the JEM cartoon).

I liked the Conan cartoon also. It was one of the most internally consistant cartoons ever made. I loved how both the villian and hero were both after the star metal for different reasons.

Thundarr the Barbarian was cool too. A friend of mine ran a campaign based on the cartoon where the party found "magic items," such as a fire extinguisher. Let me tell you, the New York subway system made a nasty dungeon... we even had Gemini as a adversary. Although, he was called away to deal with another group of adventurers including a warrior with a energy sword :)

I would love to see a D20 action cartoon system. Not the silly bugs bunny stuff but things like Johny Quest or Space Ghost...

Oh man. Thundarr rocked.

Thundarr the Barbarian. Ariel the Sorceress. Not much trouble converting them into d20 character classes, eh?

I particularly liked the way Thundarr wasn't portrayed as being the stereotypical lead hero, i.e. all-wise, all-knowing, judgment always ultimately proven right (q.v. Kevin Sorbo's Hercules, or anyone who's ever captained an Enterprise). He was a barbarian, a man of action. Ariel was the brains of the outfit.

I loved that show. I have the first two episodes on tape and have been meaning to watch them again for the past month.

I also have the main ship (Wraith?) with several of the action figures.

Come to think of it I may have found just the hook I was wanting for the new campaign I'm planning on starting.
