I like the 3e halfling a lot more than the 2e version. My character concepts work much better with the new halflings. I mean, can you imagine a 2e halfling as a psychic warrior?

Also, is it just me, or do halflings seem a lot more like elves than humans?

think about this for 10 seconds if you don't like playing the halflings that have always been a part of d&d thats fine but I FEEL that it was in bad tatse to change itif they had a poll in Dragon magazine asking people if they wanted the halflings to be changed that wouldve been different but they didnt they just took the game by the horns so to speak and by the way im not too far off the mark if at all they wouldnt have changed them if they didn't think it wouldve sold more what kind of little world do you live in?

LOL...

It's not like they made a poll when they changed the halfling to the hobbit-wannabe in 1e AD&D.

The Dungeons and Dragons halfling was a lot less hobbit-like and a lot more like the 3e halfling.

To me, it was the same decision of going back to the roots of the game as bringing back the Assassin, Barbarian and so on.

Well, my vision of the halfling has all the 1e subraces, with the standard 3e lightfoot halflings; but my tallfellows are different. They look like human kids, and are total gypsies that talk to equines. I gave my vision form years ago, when I started my current campaign world up.

I think the 3e halfling is one of 3e's many attempts to integrate common house rules into the game. A lot of groups- though not mine- used kender. I'm glad they didn't go that far, that's for sure; but I like the new halfling a lot. As a couple of people pointed out, he makes a better adventurer.

Why not just keep hairfeet as the ol' hobbit-style halflings? Subraces are the key to campaign continuity.

So the fact that the poll here is 2/3 for the new ones and only 1/3 for the old ones proves they made the correct decision, right?

PS: Buy some punctuation. It's surprisingly inexpensive.

actually most of the people here like 3rd edition have you ever bothered to think about that? a poll in dragon wouldve been nearer the mark i mean come on man how man im not attacking their decision i never did but IT is a marketing ploy why else would age even be an issue in this poll? im sure your right though 3rd e is always right i think it's a stupid thing to argue about but when somebody tells me to think for 5 seconds and acts that way i get piissed because i have to take it personally ya im old and thats why the age is afactor the fact is if they changed elves in some way that YOU didn't like or something similiar you would feel taht in a forum you coculd express your ideas as to why this has happened and don't talk about punctuation tht just goes to show how pedantic some people can be
