Meep, you should take a look at Greylond's rants, quite pointed. You'll find mine there as well, quite... different is all I'll say.

This post is soooo 1999.

That is, if life for you is about appearance and glam over substance and style, a Hobbit is not for you.

True, not many things have as much substance as a hobbit after his six square meals a day.

Halflings of earlier editions are the stay at home mom's of society.

Good. They should stay at home.

Yes your right. Halflings need to get thinner. They needed to get tougher. They needed to get an attitude. They needed long dreadlocks and wear all black and wander around like little mad maxes of the world. I geuss today's players only respect that kind of thing. They don't understand that some players actually would prefer to play the race that IS the conventional stay at home type who is constantly at odds with his adventuring lyfestyle. Yes it's all about power. It's all about making them"cool" for the people who couldn't just say aw shucks I don't like the halflings. No.. NO and again no. They HAD to fix the "problem". And what IS the problem. Lets take a look at these claims: Halflings are fat. Ok so more halflings tend to put on weight than average. I'd suspect all the overweight players out there would have a problem with that. Another thing: no shoes. Oh boy! What a bummer dude! They just don't look cool without those shoes! Better slap some nice spiffy D&D style black leathers on those poor skinny pale little halflings. They like to stay at home more than the other races and they tend to enjoy creature comforts. OK now I think I know why so many new players have a problem with even wanting to IMAGINE these halflings. They remind them too much of their own existence. No, the halflings are Tolkien's creation. Gygax added halflings into the game to add this to the rules set if players wanted them. Originally they were even called hobbits in the rules. TSR was pressured to call them halflings for obvious legal reasons. WOTC owns D&D. And man have they proved it!!!!! They gone beyond changing rules. They've changed an entire race overnight! And THAT is what ticks me off. It wasn't right. It wasn't.... fair, without some sort of plebiscite among the normal everyday players who have kept D&D running all these years (even through the bad times of the mid to late 90's). I feel that playtesters test rules and thats IT. A purely cosmetic and cultural change is total flavour and THIS should've been voted upon.

They also needed some paragraph breaks.

Not that I have anything against a lack of paragraph breaks (you know how hard it is to type paragraph? I keep spelling it paragrargh or paragarph or something like that. There aren't that many words that keep tripping me up like that. Well, maybe a few. Would you believe, quite a few. But it depends on what time of day it is. But I gidress. I mean digress). Where was I? Oh yea, paragraph breaks. Like, I have nothing against the stream-of-consciousness posting style, but it takes a certain elan to pull it off. If you know what I mean, and I think you do. Oops, sorry, wrong meme. Yes, as I was saying, it takes a certain panache and style to do stream-of-consciousness properly. The sort of panache and style that only comes about after having consumed a shop-full of pharmaceuticals in one sitting, so that your fingers feel like they're running up your arms and escaping out your ears. Coffee is a good way to get halfway there, but it doesn't really get all the way there. So please insert some paragraph breaks in your posts. Or try something stronger than coffee. But I wouldn't really recommend the former, because even if you did that, it still takes years and years of practice and people cleaning up after you to get the style right. It's also hard to post when you have a drip hooked up to your arm. I'd really like to say "I know, I've tried" at this point, but unfortunately, I can't. Committed to the truth, is me. The truth and nothing but the truth, I say. Well, perhaps some interpretation is necessary, since there's no such thing as absolute truth. Not in the empirical sense anyway, the sense of something that can be disproved by means of factual observations, because that just leads to the question of what constitutes a factual observation, and who makes these observations, and whether you should trust them. And that just leads to a vicious cycle. But then I was never one for entomological niceties. That's the word innit? Entomology = the study of knowledge. As opposed to etymology, which is the study of insects. I always get those two mixed up. But as always, you can trust me, because I always check my facts before posting nonsense to UNsenet bulletin boards. As should everyone.

THANK YOU

It is? I was under the impression this was UNsenet.

You know, the United Nations Senet, as invented by Al Gore, the father of the algorithm.

I get off anywhere I want.

Hmm. Let me rephrase that.

I'm packing a "foul mouth"... hmm. Let me rephrase that too.
