How about an EN World Online Gameday?

I dunno. Online gaming is tough for me. I would have liked the Chicago game day, but the schedule was just bad for me! :( Still, I'd give something like this a shot.

I was considering arranging an ENWorld Summer Tournament, with jousts, spellcasting duels, and card games, using the rules from Natural 20 Press's Tournaments, Fairs, & Taverns. We'd let people make characters to compete, and everyone would probably be the same level. Maybe 5th or so. Perhaps we could have a fund-raiser of sorts, and let people who donate to ENWorld play 7th level characters.

So we'd have a grand joust (including races, obstacle courses, mounted archery, a horse fashion show, and finally the joust itself), a magical tourney (various spell duels, plus a few Bahly games), and a card game tournament (poker, probably). If we could manage to get a few companies to sign on, we might be able to give prizes to the winners.

Does that sound interesting to you?

Sounds like a fun idea, but I (and probably quite a few other people) don't have Tournaments, Fairs, & Taverns. Wouldn't this pose a bit of a problem? Still, good idea none the less. Maybe it could go along side the Gameday, so you could go adventuring or go to the tournament, or do both.

sorry i couldn't make it. :( had a prior commitment with the girlfriend (not that she would be averse to coming or anything!)
i will drag her with me to gencon though, if at all humanly possible. ;)

Mark - sounds like an awesome idea. I'm always a bit jealous I can't make it to any of the 'Cons - but, a teenager's/college student's flight options are somewhat limited... ;)
RangerWicket, not only is that a great idea, I bet it'd get some more people to pick up the book, too. Sounds good to me!

Yeah! Don't charge for the Gameday, just require a "lab fee" of picking up the rules two weeks in advance.

Maybe we could also have a few different settings represented (in particular channels) that also supply the champions for a special round or two of the combat?

Just to sort of spitball a format, I was thinking something along the lines of this...

Get eight or so d20 publishers with settings to sponser channels for their settings. Could be more, could be less.

Have them moderate their channel or appoint reps to moderate (perhaps some shifts being taken by GMs who know their settings well enough to handle moderating their setting tournaments).

Players would create characters for the setting in which they are either most familiar or with which they have some affinity.

Setting publishers would create or modify six different setting challenges (one based on each of the six ability scores.)

Players could sign up for their rounds based on what fits their schedule/time zone but could not sign up for more than one slot nor more than one publisher.

Characters, regardless of setting, would have to conform to some sort of criteria (like a 28 point buy method, perhaps.)

There would be five Setting Rounds with a randomly chosen challenge rolled at the beginning of the Round.

From this Setting Round, only one winner per Setting could advance.

The winner from each setting would advance to the EN World Elimination Round.

From each Elimination Round two winners would advance to the EN World Semi Final Round.

From the EN World Semi Final Round two would advance to the Finals for some sort of three round tournament.

(Again, I'm just throwing out one possible format. This one tries to balance luck of the dice and challange draw against character building advantages/disadvantages.)
