D&D 3E/3.5 How are You Wrapping Up 3.5?

For those people wrapping up 3.5 campaigns and then shifting over to 4E, how are you planning on doing that? Are you going to do anything special? Are you doing a 3.5 Send Off?

This is what our group decided upon (but this will not start until about mid-April when our current adventure ends):

1) Gain a level every session (note: this requires the players to stay on top of the character sheets and to understand all of their new spells and abilities each week).

2) Gain outrageous wealth and magic items.

3) Face classical enemies such as Pit Fiends.

4) Have some climatic multi-session mega-battle in late May, early June.

We decided to send 3.5 out with a bang. What about your group?

General - How are You Wrapping Up 3.5?

With a whimper.

I'm playing in two campaigns right now. The Forgotten Realms game meets sporadically these days (having lost my wife as a player due to her dissatisfaction with 3e), while my Red Hand of Doom game is so obsessed with 4e that we're dumping the campaign the minute we buy our 4e books.

That, and both groups would rather play Rock Band anyway.

I plan on making the switch to 4e...but I've got plenty of 3.5 stuff I want to play with before I make the jump......I'm looking at making the switch...maybe in 2009.

Trial Run

We're reviving my friend's old homebrew campaign with 4E rules in January 2009.

If we like the way things operate, we'll make the switch permanent ... otherwise we're going back to 3.5 D&D.

I briefly considered it, but nope.

check, although on a slightly lower scale, since I didn't go with the 1 level per week. But beholder, dracolich, lich, red dragon and mindflayer, yup, all planned.

4) Have some climatic multi-session mega-battle in late May, early June.

Was mostly me (the DM), but yeah, they are going to go out with a big bang.

Two babies in the last 7 months. We have lost any and all momentum in the game. I made the decision this week to just kill it.

If, after giving 4e a try with some pick up games, we decide to switch, we'll just finish the ongoing 3.5 campaigns in their normal course... as long as we're having fun doing so. There will be no special marking of the end of the 3.5 campaign and the start of 4e. There will be no special in game event to justify the shift in mechanics. The new campaign will just start and, if in a previous edition world, that world will be converted as if it had always existed in 4e.

Gestalt Rappan Athuk Reloaded

High-powered and a high PC body count.
8 weeks in and I've killed ...let' see... 6 PC's at least.

The upside to so many deaths is they get to try a new gestalt combination.
Hopefully by the end everyone will feel we've drained as much fun as we possibly could out of 3.5.

Going out with the Shar trilogy Realms adventures, on half-way through Corymr: the tearing of the weave. I'm trying with magic items to fit what the players' characters would need. So a +1 greatsword is allowed to get a new handle to become a +1 bastard sword. Some quasi-4e rules, like saving throws being a saving AC.

We just started talking about it. The current plan is to switch to 4E in August. I'll try to move things toward some sort of conclusion/climax by then.
