How could Kobolds defend their lair? Part 3 of game session posted.

Bwahaha! You'll get more when I want and not a moment before! Hmm... starting a story hour is seeming a better and better idea with all the possible abuses of power.

And just to torment you more: You'll see dead PCs and PCs wetting themselves and running away from the kobolds. Does anyone care to bet who'll end up dead?

Umm......still sat here waiting.

Oh yeah. same here. We like to see kobolds be the true terrors they were meant to be and reak havoc on high level, overconfident parties!

Has anyone ever sat down and calculated the value (in GP terms) of all the traps a tribe of kobolds could build, if the most skilled 10% of them could devote all of their time to trapbuilding? This assumes that the lower-ranking kobolds spend their time gathering food and the like.

Some of them are darned hard to calculate. Pits, spikes, collapsing ceilings are, IMNSHO, overpriced. Sure, if you have nice steel spikes and a concealed pit in a mosaic floor you'll spend cash. Sharp bits of wood and dirt over mats of reeds? Not so much. What about wasp nests and the like? Hard to tell.

The calculation also depends on how long they've been there. Assume a mere 2% of the 400 kobolds make traps. Well, that's 8 kobolds. If they're there a month, that's 240-man-days (err, kobold-days) of work. After 5 years that turns into nearly 15,000 kobold-days of labor.

I'd say 10% is probably a good number. Some would say it's high but much of the general digging/excavation will include trap-making so 1 in 10 kobolds is performing work that furthers a trap. Of course I also expect kobolds not to have weekends or days off.
