These guys have tips on what you can do to get yourself listed. Of course, they'd be happy to take your money and do it for you. ;-) However, they have lots of tips, etc.

I'm sure you can search Google to find other search engine tip sites.

From what I just read Goggle updates on a four week cycle and may take up to or 3 cycles to get in/listed. here is a few more links that may be helpful for you.

This site is a interesting one called self promotion and seems real helpful, have not had a chance to read it all. Alot stuff there, sort of like shareware here is a quote from the site
SelfPromotion.com is the net's leading resource for do-it-yourself Web Promotion. Here you will find all the information and automatic submission tools you need to do the job quickly, efficiently, and most of all, properly! If you invest a little time into reading and using this resource, you'll not only do a much better job of promoting your site, but save yourself a lot of time and effort in the process.

And best of all, it's FREE. If you feel the site is useful, then pay me what YOU think the advice and service is worth! And if you ever change your mind for any reason, you get your money back -- no questions asked.

The grey navigation palettes on the right side of each page let you quickly bounce around the site. Start by reading this page, which will introduce you to the basics of site promotion.

Then, when you're ready to start promoting your site, use the Create New Account form (just below this text on the right-hand side) to get started registering your site around the Net!

Here is the link to it http://SelfPromotion.com

her is another link with articles from webdevlopers.com http://www.webdevelopersjournal.com/articles/site_promotion/web_site_promotion_guide.html#promotion

Hopefully this helpful to you.

The best way to get a good listing on Google is to persuade other sites to have links to you, since that affects their PageRank technology.

As a general rule it is not worth trying to artificially inflate search engine ranking - there is an ongoing war with techniques and counter-techniques being applied by the search engine companies and seach-engine "spammers".

Generally important tips include - making sure that you have a relevant title tag which sums up the site (and/or page(s)). Make sure that you include relevant text which explains the site towards the top of the home page (visible text is generally rated more highly than invisible text, text near the top of the page is generally rated more highly than that at the bottom).

What is your website anyway?

i am not trying to inflate my nubers, just get listed, last i checked they still do not recognize me. part fo the problem i am sure is the pornstar, bass fisherman and athlete with my name, not to mention others, but if i enter terms found on my page and not theirs i still do not come up on the search engines.

i just want listed, not artificially pumped up :)

thanks for the advice :)

Just typed "mark davis pottery" in google and you came up top of the list!

Have you considered getting a listing on the Clay Art Web Guide? They will provide a free link to your site as long as you have a reciprocal link back to them. I came across them by doing a search for "salt fired stoneware" since that seemed to be something you specialised in. Other sites linking to you raises your importance in google, and makes it more likely someone might find you in particular. http://www.vickihardin.com/links/saltfiredceramics.html

If people are looking for someone in your area you look to be in luck - "salt fired stoneware memphis" gave you as one of the only two options.

I didn't have any luck finding you with altavista.com, lycos.com or alltheweb.com though.

Best luck with the site. If you would like any help or suggestions I'd be happy to help (flashes web developer badge)

wow! how cool. thanks p.s., nice to hear it from someone, that is even more exciting than seeing it :)

i may just contact you about some work :)
