How do you find out about gaming events in your area?

I've never attended any rpg conventions before. Besides asking FLGS, what resources can you find this info in? Does anyone know of any specifics for the San Francisco area?

most of the local gaming stores here in MN know when @ where most of the conventions are. Ask the guys/gals @ your local store if they know of any.

Well, I live in the isolated parts of Eastern Oregon, so the only contact I have with players other than the ones in my campaign is right here. But if you are looking for other players, then there is a forum for it, I suggest taking a look.

Great lakes Gaming Con- Duluth in feb
Anime detour- march Bloomington
Mars COn- see above
Minicon- minneapolis
Recon- heald 2-3 times a year in Brooklyn center mini war games
Con of the River- Winona in October
Fall Con- Minneapolis area October
Minnesota gamers con- St. Paul in NOV
Valley Con- Fargo ND if you live in the Detroit Lakes area this is the best con for you.

Some of the ones listed above are not gaming cons but most of them have larger gaming rooms and 24/7 gaming events.

Hmm....I forgot about Rock-Con, a sci-fi themed convention that usually has a very small amount of gaming here in Little Rock. But it's been largely regarded as a joke for years, and almost no one attends anymore, from what I've been told.

Gaming shops and word of mouth are the easiest ways around here. Though we have more gaming events then I can attend.

Some cities have a Yahoo Group around for such things. There is an RPGA group for the Ohio area anyways and I know the Columbus, OH meetup.com group moved to a Yahoo Group also. So you might try some searching on Yahoo Groups for your city and see if you happen to find something that might help.
