Well.... just as most good films (in the sense, those winning oscars and such) rarely protray graphic sex or violence, I do not see the need for them in a good roleplaying game.
Graphic sex rarely improves the story.
Graphic violence sometimes improves the story, if used under certain circumstances (I like the idea of getting graphic when players want to 'take 20' on a search check on some just hacked to pieces enemy, it does serve a clear purpose then), or if the genre (horror) sortof calls for it.
