How do you handle XP?

I have recently abandonded the XP tables to move to a 1/3 of needed xp every game. I give extra (+10%) for creative ideas and/or good roleplaying. Below av. level pc's get +25% xp, until they close the gap. I require training time and trainers (or extra time is necessary) and now that they have hit 7th level finding trainers is more difficult in my mostly low level world. More than 1 level per 3 games slows down the pace.
Not having to do the bookkeeping is wonderfull and allows important non-combat successes to be weighted as much as hackfests.

Inexperienced players seem to prefer a more regular XP system (they don't usually like to be judged by the DM), and PCG-addicted players simply demand it :p .

I know very mature playgroup which like to use solid XP system based on calculations. They enjoy to meet the challenges of adventures and "fair play". On the other hand, I know some immature and self-congratulatory DM who want to control and dominate all the things happen in his campaign world, including who wins, who loses, who advances when, and such. Of course, there are a lot of opposit cases.

That is not the maturity, just a playing style.

How about it?

Do you use FRCS, UA, standard DMG?

Anyone have a system that actually makes sense?

DMG. It's "easier" in the sense of using one system. Not easy in the fact that it's kinda hard to figure out those first few times.
