This hobby became a lot more fun once I chose to only play with people who had shown me that they had basic social skills. Including those who can gracefully accept feedback and criticism without going berzerk or passive aggressive.

It was brought to my attention that, in fact, asynchronous communication has major pitfalls for people who are apt to be upset by the communication - especially if they are angry, and even moreso if they have issues with anxiety for any reason.

TLDR all the replies. I will say I think @Deset Gled did an excellent job of how to setup the right environment for the conversation. There are numerous resources for having difficult conversations, they are generally aimed at professional situations, but imo they apply. I've taken classes and used some of these before. They help.
