It first crawled out the swamp in the 1E Fiend Folio.

It missed the swamp barge for the 3E MM.

When it did catch the swamp barge, it realised too late that the bargemaster had taken it to the Forgotten Realms: see the 3E supp. "Monsters of Faerun".

P.S. Sorry to jump on the pronounciation bandwagon.

I believe the great Dungeon Master said it best when he said, "Dear Me - Bullywugs!" And disappeared to a nearby tree branch. :)

And yes, I have that cartoon on tape.

Yay! Viva Los Bully-Wugs!

My favorite AD&D PC of all time was a bullywug fighter (cavalier kit). He was actually a cursed human prince, but isn't that cool-- a frog prince character?

He was probably the best dice luck character I ever had. Our GM was totally hard core. I was joining a party of 10th level PCs on their way into Dragon Mountain. He made me start at first level!

When some of the party spotted me, they tried to capture me because I was a bullywug. Just then, a basilisk burst from the bushes, instantly turning the two of them into stone (I was not facing it at the time).

I lept over its back, making sure I did not make eye contact. I then used my bullywug leap attack, which allows double damage with impailing weapons. I was using a long spear, which in AD&D Skills & Powers was listed as 3d6 vs. large creatures. I rolled a natural 20! By the way, I had 18/76 STR! So my damage roll was a 12x4=48= Dead basilisk. Mind you, this was the first hit of teh entire combat!

The rest of the 10th level party arrived, to see that I, the toad man, had in deed, tried to save their friends from the horrible monster. As their mage depetrified them, They warmly welcomed me into their party, despite my freakish appearance, and we became teh best of friends! It was the most "party loyalty" I have ever experienced in a group. At the end, when facing the dragon, I remember being coiled in the dragon's tail, barely clining to life with 1HP. It was my turn to go, and the dragon had just grievously wounded and disarmed my best friend. Knowing that I would surely die next round, but that my friend had yet a chance to live, I declared my action: I threw my sword to my friend, and said a prayer. He caught it, and managed to deal the beast a wicked blow before being felled himself. Though i did not die in vain. As my crumpled body fell to the ground, my friends gathered round to see a face they did not reckognize-- that of a human prince. By my act of selflessness, I was redeemed, and restored to my human form, if only in death.
