How do you recruit new players?

I post 'players wanted' notices here, at WotC, RPG Registry, Access Denied, and on the forums for two local hobby shops in The Springs. Also, I stick up at least one or two 3x5 index card ads on the actual bulletin board located in the back of another local hobby shop. Failing that, I join an existing group as a player and put my dreams of GMing again on hold ;)
I'm on Access Denied but I need to update it.

I haven't heard of RPG Registry. I didn't see a way to narrow the search down to my area.

How do I recruit new players? Good question!

Wiseguy Answer #1: VERY carefully

Wiseguy Answer #2: I seek out the wide-eyed lost innocent souls that are hungry for acceptance; these are the types who are most suspectible to Satan's power.

Real Answer: Usually by just meeting people, talking to them, getting their measure, and inviting them in if they seem like they'll be compatible with the group dynamic. Where do I find them? Eh... at work, at cons, at the FLGS. Players-in-law (the SO's of any of my current players) get a free invite sight unseen; hey if it helps give a couple something fun they can do together, I'm glad to accommodate.

I have become very leery, however, of accepting friends-of-a-friend.

i frequent alot of places gamers hang out. game stores, comic book stores, conventions, hobby shops, and book stores. plus on the computer. chat rooms, bulletin boards, newsgroups, game sites, and message boards.

after doing it so long. i no longer look for gamers. they look for me.

I started a campaign in February. I posted on message boards including this one. I had turn people away I had so many reply. I need some new players now and the well has dried up.

Typically, I recruit from my waiting list. It's longer than the list of actual players I have.

I've had bad experiences with friends of a friend. Some times it works out.

Oh yeah, I've had some good experiences as well. Just seems that the last few times have not only been bad, they've been SPECTACULARLY bad!

Currently, our campaign is clogged full. I have a backlog of people who have dropped heavy heavy hints that they want to be part of it. But that won't be happening anytime soon. We're player-heavy enough as it is!

Poorly, and with great difficulty... Oh, you're looking for actual advice, not my personal sob-story. Heck, if I knew the answer to this I'd be gaming a lot more than I am.
