Do you refer to your RPG character in first person ("I open the door and cast a spell at the zombie) or third person ("Bob the Mage opens the door, then he casts a spell at the zombie")?

I think our group is a little mixed. When describing actions, it's "Zel casts a fireball", but otherwise, all dialogue is roleplayed. I've had one or two people come over and not be comfortable with the dialogue, and say "Doc explains to the soldier that we need to use his home for a hideout." but mostly it's all roleplayed, with different voices and such.

First person. Except when I roll poorly. Then it's second person.

"Why can't you ever do anything right, you @#$%ing moronic cleric!?!"

In our group, if someone says something like "I tell the innkeeper to bring me a beer", the usual reply is "well, tell him!". :)
To be honest, I really don't see the point of role-playing games without dialogue. It would be like movies without images...

i don't say::: "I say this....I say that...." i speak like i am the character.

"Madam, your blouse is undone. Here, let me help you with that..."

and when describing the action i use body language as well as first person...

waves hands menacingly in the air before striking the table with my cup

tell DM: i lunge at the cheater.

rolls init

[dice]

I choose first person when I as a person actually understand what it is I am supposedly doing (I caast fireball/I swing my [insert weapon of choice here])

I choose third person when I as a person have absolutely no idea how I am supposed to be doing whatever is is that I am supposed to be doing (Um, [insert moronic PC name here] has the carpentry skill so he fixes the wheel on the wagon if I can make the roll.

As above, I use second person when things go poorly (you stupid dice, its all your fault, you couldn't just let me succeed could you)

Ha! That reminds me of an observation I made when I was DMing monday night. At least 2 of my players start to refer to their chars in third person when they are not very confident about their current actions. On the flipside of the coin, when they are brimming with confidence, its all, "I do X, and I do Y"
