90/10 split first-person/third-person.

When I speak, I usually speak in character, unless what I have to say is extremely prosaic, and I'm playing a bard or such. Then I summarize it, because I'm not going to blow my bard's chances by speaking for him. :)

As a player, I almost always use first-person. As a DM, I'm closer to fifty/fifty.

For their parts, my players tend to use first-person... but I sometimes wonder if it's more out of confusion than being "in-character" - they seem more likely to ask Brenda to heal them than asking Lia (Brenda's character) to do so.

Brown Jenkin always refers to Brown Jenkin's characters in the third person because Brown Jenkin always referes to Brown Jenkin in the third person. So that's Brown Jenkin's view.

I tend to stay third person, unless I'm really into a particular encounter, or, if I'm DM'ing feel that I can "act" well enough to capture the NPC or creature effectively.

I refer to myself in the first person. I cast fireballs and magic missile. I slay ogres and kill pesky goblins and...

Oh...

You meant in game?

:p

I refer to my various PCs in first person while playing but in third person when not gaming or metagaming. Sometimes, I refer to them in the fourth or fifth person when not in game...but that's a whole place you don't even wanna go...

Primarily I refer to my characters in First Person, once in a while in Third Person, and two or three times in Second Person (which made for a weird session).

I use a mix of both and yes I do swear at my character when bad things happen.
"You have a +12 to hit! Why can't you hit the damn goblin!?" ;)
Insert several more colorful remarks that Eric's grandma wouldn't be too happy aboot.
