D&D 5E How do you regain INT after an Intellect Devourer attack?

I have a 13th level Cleric who is sitting in a puddle of his own drool with an INT of 0 after coming off the wrong end of a run in with an intellect devourer. Lucky for him the party killed the little thing before it could finish the job. Does INT return after a long rest, short rest, a point an hour or what?

Greater restoration definitely does it, but nothing natural that I can see. Do you have any other clerics or Druids in your party?

One other cleric but he is multiclass so lacks the spell level.

Are you only unconscious at int 0 in 5e? That would be death in any other edition.

The attack, in this case successful, reduces the INT to 0 and the target is "stunned" according to the 5th ed. MM.

My googlfu is weak but I think I'll have to houserule some sort of gradual recovery.

TECHNICALLY, you could allow him to slightly regain consciousness, and do a very dodgy casting of the spell on himself... If he could put the words together. Maybe the other cleric could help pray for the spell on his drooling companions behalf and his god might just give him a little assistance, otherwise he's screwed unless you take him to a temple :)

If someone can buff his INT (enhance ability) above 3, he could cast the spell himself, provided he can prepare it :)

the INT limitation is that he can't speak proper, thus can't cast the spell, otherwise should be just fine.

how to roleplay this is up to them, of course :v

If the DM is feeling flexible, this sounds like an excellent side quest opportunity.

Since the guy's smarts are basically inside the deceased Intellect Devourer, maybe the party need to find a way to use its corpse as part of a cure - perhaps a mystic might channel the lost intellect back into the Cleric, or an alchemist could use the corpse as an ingredient in a special restorative concoction.
