How does a lich heal himself?

During the battle Id just have the lich soul retreat to his Phylactery and Then Take over a new body. To the PC's it would look like they killed the lich. If the Pc's fail to find its Phylactery (for what ever reason), the lich would have better intel on the party and could devise new plans to defeat the party. Or alternatly the lich could stay in hiding for a while and send minions to harras and kill the party. If the party is foolish enough to think that they killed the lich so easly so be it.

Lich uses a Planar Binding spell to summon a Trumpet Archon or a Planetar and compels his victim to cast a few Inflict Wounds spells on him.

I made a lich bad guy would had captured a Xeg-Yi once. Or was it a Xag-Ya ? Anyway, the creature from the negative energy plane from Manual of the Planes. It was used for healing.

Well the quote is "Cannot heal damage on its own if it has no Intelligence score" which seems different from "Mindless undead will not seek to heal themselves" It seems clear to me it is saying mindless undead don't heal naturally on their own as most creatures do.

I don't think there is any statement that non-mindless undead don't heal. The healing section makes no reference to living creatures only. Only the undead type description makes an exception for non-intelligent undead.

HEALING
After taking damage, you can recover hit points through natural healing or through magical healing. In any case, you can’t regain hit points past your full normal hit point total.
Natural Healing: With a full night’s rest (8 hours of sleep or more), you recover 1 hit point per character level. Any significant interruption during your rest prevents you from healing that night.
If you undergo complete bed rest for an entire day and night, you recover twice your character level in hit points.
Magical Healing: Various abilities and spells can restore hit points.
Healing Limits: You can never recover more hit points than you lost. Magical healing won’t raise your current hit points higher than your full normal hit point total.
Healing Ability Damage: Ability damage is temporary, just as hit point damage is. Ability damage returns at the rate of 1 point per night of rest (8 hours) for each affected ability score. Complete bed rest restores 2 points per day (24 hours) for each affected ability score.
