How does "Improved Natural Attack" work with a Monk

Unarmed strikes are not natural weapons (as odd as that sounds), so a monk with Improved Natural Attack is just like every other monk.

Well now...

The 3.5 Players Handbook on page 41 states:

"A monk's unarmed strike is treated both as a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons (such as the magic fang and magic weapon spells)."

I would say there is some wiggle room to interpret the question either way. You could most certainly take the Improved Natural Attack [General] feat from the 3.5 Monster Manual if allowed by your DM. This has the advantage of advancing your damage dice category for your monk.

tis from a different thread on this.

Personally, I wouldn't allow it because it is slightly more powerful than Weapon Specialisation and I think that should remain a fighter's prerogative.

However, if you ruled differently the damage would be increased as follows:

- 1d6 becomes 1d8
- 1d8 becomes 2d6
- 1d10 becomes 2d8

Wrong-0.

...A monk’s unarmed strike is treated both as a manufactured weapon and a natural weapon for the purpose of spells and effects that enhance or improve either manufactured weapons or natural weapons....

Use large monk damage.
